Video: Specialized desert gecko
This gecko species uses the eyes to make drinking water.
Gecko Palmetto (Pachydactylus rangei).
Palmetto Gecko (Pachydactylus rangei) lives in the Namib Desert, south of Africa. Water here is very scarce, they must be "creative".
Although they are nocturnal, they stay awake until morning to wait for the early morning fog. Their large eyes are able to retain water on the surface and the long tongue is able to lick around the eyes to get drinking water.
When the sun rises, they dig holes in the sand to sleep and avoid heat.
