Video: Stingray flies like a bird on the sea
At first glance, many people think this is a strange bird flying on the sea. In fact, this is the spectacular performance of flying rays of the US.
Scientists filmed the spectacular performance of the stingray in Baja, California - USA. This is the Mobula bats , the species of Myliobatidae, a relative of Manta stingray.
These flying rays have the common name 'Mobula bay' , or simply flying rays because they often have spectacular screenings on the air. The width of the Mobula rays can reach 5.2m, the weight can reach 1 ton, only to the famous Manta rays.
This fish is very rare, though huge but it is rarely discovered by humans and sometimes it is only known through word of mouth among fishermen. Scientists guessed that the beautiful kicking action of this flying stingray is intended to attract mates. Male stingray can jump up to 3m from the water surface, hover in the air for a few seconds and then fall back to the water surface causing a loud noise.
Not all stingrays are capable of jumping out of the water. In addition to Mobula, in the Central American sea, only Manta stingray is able to do this. Adult Manta fish can be more than 7m long, weigh more than 2 tons and swim in the water at 11.3km / hour.
