Vietnam - America: Cooperation in cancer research

Vietnam and the US will project to build and develop Cancer Research Laboratory with scientific research, technology transfer, science and technology services and training.

The above information was given at the meeting of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Quoc Khanh with Prof. Chancellor Gene Block, Principal of University of California, Los Angeles, USA (UCLA) to pay a courtesy visit to work at Dai National University (HCMC National University) on July 1 at the Ministry of Science and Technology headquarters.

At the meeting, Prof. Chancellor Gene Block informed the Vice Minister of UCLA's global cooperation strategy, about the cooperation programs between UCLA and University of Vietnam - HCM, which emphasized the Biomedical Sciences program and the project. Cancer Lab. GS said, the Biomedical Science Program helps VNU-HCM to build and develop scientific disciplines such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and especially the Cancer industry to cure one of the most common diseases. most of our country today. This is the strength of UCLA, as well as the field being developed at VNU-HCM with the participation of universities and hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.

Talking to Deputy Minister on promoting these cooperation in the future. GS said that the cooperation strategy of the project aims to build and develop the Research Laboratory for Cancer Research with the functions of scientific research, technology transfer, science and technology services and training. This will be the first oncology research institute in the country with the orientation to become the leading cancer research institute nationwide in science and technology research, manufacturing products with high levels of gray matter and possibly application and commercialization, have the capacity to integrate into the region and the world. This is the basis for the US Government to consider bringing this program into the official cooperation with Vietnam.

On behalf of MOST leaders, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh highly appreciated and supported the cooperation between VNU-HCM and the University of California, especially the study of stem cells and the staff training field. The Deputy Minister stressed that the Ministry of Science and Technology will create all necessary conditions for the cooperation to have the best results.

The Deputy Minister also suggested that the National University of Ho Chi Minh City soon complete this cooperation project to get comments and discussions to submit to the Government in the early time.
