Vietnam expects 3 bio-economic projects with the Netherlands

Professor and doctor of science Nguyen Dinh Cong, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) stated that Vietnam has a source of genetic material from the microorganisms of nature and environment. rich, especially the sea. This will be a good premise for economic development based on biological foundation.

This workshop is also one of the remarkable activities between VAST and the Be-Basic Association of the Netherlands in order to bring scientific advances into socio-economic development.

According to Professor Nguyen Dinh Cong, since 2009, the institute has proposed to the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Council for Science and Technology Policy to submit to the government to develop a strategy of economic development based on the foundation. Vietnamese biology (hereinafter referred to as Bioeconomics).

'This is a revolutionary breakthrough that requires careful preparation, needing reference from previous international experiences ,' Mr. Cong said.

With the cooperation with the Dutch partner, Professor Nguyen Dinh Cong believes that new materials will be discovered, exploited and used through biotechnology and background technologies, bio-industry to create produce the necessary materials to develop the biological economy.

BE-Basic is a public-private organization combined with about 50% of the budget capital from the Dutch government and investors. The organization is also actively seeking international partners to establish partnerships in Brazil, Malaysia and Vietnam

For Vietnam, the main motivation for cooperation is large agricultural waste (such as straw .), relatively good infrastructure, rich diversified ecosystems .

During the period of 2012-2013, projects and proposals were submitted to BE Basic's board of directors and two of them were approved for funding (including: Monitoring, biological treatment and quality assessment amount of cropland, crop and agricultural waste in Vietnam, new antibiotics, genes and biological compounds in the natural environment of Vietnam) and a project awaiting approval (Pre-treatment, production biological and pilot).

BE-Basic's total funding for the three projects is about 3.05 million euros and the Vietnamese side will have a similar grant. The basic principle of this cooperation is that each country pays its own share and funding will be used to promote the transfer and exchange of personnel and materials.
