Vietnam is about to watch meteor shower

Vietnam will have the opportunity to observe the Lyrids meteor shower - the most remarkable astronomical phenomenon in the early months of the year.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuong, Vietnam Astronomical Society, said that on the night of the 21st, the morning of 22 this month, at about 2am, Lyrids meteor shower will reach the maximum with a meteor of about 20 streaks every hour.

During the period of April 15-26, viewers could still see some meteors of the Lyrids, but in small quantities.

"The meteor shower appears at the beginning of the lunar month, there is no moonlight. This is a favorable condition to observe this astronomical phenomenon," Phuong said.

Experts recommend astronomers, observers should note the weather carefully, if the sky is cloudy, cloudy, rainy, it will be very difficult to observe this phenomenon, when watching, should lie on its back and avoid the light shining straight into the eyes. Viewers do not need telescopes or binoculars.

Meteor shower occurs because the earth enters the dusty area which is the remnant of comets. Different sized dust particles rush into the atmosphere at very high speeds, creating shock waves. The shockwave compresses the air particles in front of it, causing the temperature to reach thousands of degrees Celsius and igniting, creating light trails at a height of 60-100 km (from the ground up). People call these small light trails a meteor.
