At 14:60 this afternoon (Tokyo time), a strong earthquake occurred, 382 km northeast of Tokyo. The number of casualties identified so far, according to Reuters, is 10. Japanese television shows big waves sweeping over the shore swept everything including cars and ferry boats along its way.

Dr. Le Huy Minh, Director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Alert Center of the Institute of Geophysics, affirmed that Vietnam is not affected by this earthquake and tsunami.

" The earthquake in Japan occurred on the eastern side of Honshu island, causing a great shock to the east of Japan and spreading south to the Pacific Ocean.

Strong earthquakes cause tsunamis. When the tsunami spreads between Taiwan and the Philippines, the tsunami will be weakened, so it will not affect Vietnam, "Minh explained.

Da Nang is the first locality in the country to pilot the installation of tsunami warning stations and is expected to be completed before July. This is part of a project to install tsunami warning equipment nationwide. .

In March, the first two points will be built at the beginning of Hoang Sa Road and the 575 Information Regiment. The two points will have the highest receiving antenna from 30 - 35m, with siren system, large capacity to alerting people and coastal tourists to implement preventive plans. At the remaining 8 points, the system will play sound with information to warn people.

As soon as the possibility of tsunamis occurs in the East Sea, through this collection station, the system will warn people 30 minutes in advance.
