Why is an organization equipped with modern technology, technology and the world's most powerful particle accelerator doing an odd job of keeping computer mice? Let's find the answer together.
For five years, the European Atomic Research Organization (CERN) has maintained a center called C ERN Animal Shelter for Computer Mice . This center has a very special job, not anywhere in the world that is keeping a computer mouse.
The computer mice here play in the hay, eat, drink, play and even get scared when a cat accidentally visits.
Initially this was just an April Fool's joke to enhance the security awareness of employees .
Why did CERN do that? Stefan Lueders, a computer security officer at CERN, will give us the answer.
According to Lueders, this was originally an April Fool's joke to raise the security awareness of employees working at CERN. Employees are advised not to click on links that are suspected of containing malware or other threats that CERN and any other business or organization are afraid of.
"If you look at computer security issues, you'll find that the most dangerous thing is that users often click on random links," Lueders explained. "All links are highlighted in blue and you don't know what to click to get back."
CERN stressed that people should stop and think before clicking on the link.
In his warning, CERN stressed that people should stop, think before clicking on the link. And to avoid a mistaken click, CERN suggests that all employees remove the mouse from the computer and bring it to CERN Animal Shelter for Computer Mice.
Lueders thinks that typing a website address is much safer than clicking on a link. And CERN didn't want their employees to give up the mouse completely because it was just an April Fool's joke. So from there, people started grazing like this.
Pointing to a cage of computer mice with enough straw, food and the Lueders said: "They drink very little water and water is exhausted mainly due to evaporation."
In 2012, the disaster happened with the center. A strong wind blew the tree and destroyed the rat cage. However, according to the protection team, all computer mice survived and were returned to their owners. And the center is temporarily closed.

After that, the center is reopened and becomes a visiting place for guests. The mice in the cage mainly take care of themselves. They are old mice, of old generation and according to Lueders there are no wireless mice in the cage. Sometimes CERN has to buy new cages for the mice that people donate to the project.
Lueders shared that their campaign has so far produced good results, though not yet perfect.
