Vitamins help reduce the risk of infertility
Women may increase their chances of having a baby by taking multivitamin tablets, according to Harvard Medical School researchers.
After an eight-year study of more than 18,000 women, scientists found that people who took multivitamin tablets at least six times a week reduced their risk of ovulation problems by 40 percent compared to those with others.
In the UK, about 150,000 women suffer from ovulation problems, with nearly one in 10 women affected by infertility. This is the second cause of infertility in women after a fallopian tube blockage.
'Multivitamin tablets have many nutrients, including folic acid - which helps prevent reproductive problems in women and plays an important role in preventing defects in the fetus', Jorge Chavarro, team leader study said.
According to scientists, folic acid - abundant in leafy greens and animal liver - is associated with spina bifida in the fetus, so pregnant women and women trying to become pregnant are often advised. Take folic acid supplements.
