VN: Warning for earthquakes and tsunamis by the farming system

The risk of being affected by tsunamis in Vietnam is small but needs to be taken into account, because if that phenomenon occurs without prior warning, disaster will be incalculable.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (TN&MT), the magnitude of the earthquake in Vietnam will increase and need to be taken into account in the development of the country.

In fact, in Vietnam, there were 2 earthquakes of 6.7-6.8 Richcher in North Vietnam in 1935 and 1983 in the past, causing destruction in one region. Large 1,300km2 killed 30 people. Most recently, in 2001, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake in western Dien Bien damaged more than 2,000 houses. In 2005, earthquake magnitude of 4.5-5.1 Richcher occurred on August, October and November in Vung Tau and Phan Thiet waters that shook wide area of South Central region, causing some panic. place in Vung Tau, Phan Thiet and Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, a series of large projects (hydropower plants with a height of hundreds of meters, reservoirs of billions of cubic meters of water, oil and gas exploitation projects on a large scale above) continental shelf area has been and will be built .) also impacted on the geological environment and increased the likelihood of stimulating earthquakes.

For the tsunami risk, Vietnam has a long coastline of 3,260km, the risk of tsunamis also need to be taken into account to avoid disasters such as the tsunami that happened on December 26, 2004 off the coast of Indonesia. harm more than 280,000 people and millions of people lost their homes.

Accordingly, the risk of being affected by tsunamis in Vietnam is small but also needs to be taken into account, because if that phenomenon occurs without prior warning, disaster will be incalculable.

It is necessary to coordinate and report earthquakes and tsunami warnings to prevent and mitigate natural disasters and mitigate losses in socio-economic development.

2008 tsunami warning via watch alarm system

Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has just submitted to the Prime Minister the earthquake newsletter, tsunami warning. This regulation limits the news of tsunami warning earthquakes originating from the distant sea, potentially affecting the coast and islands of Vietnam.

According to this regulation, the announcement of tsunami warning earthquake will be assigned to the Institute of Geophysics under the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology. The Institute of Geophysics will conduct a tsunami warning according to the scripts appraised by a national appraisal committee. It is also stated that this preventive error should be foreseen and accepted for the tsunami warning workers to be assured of their work.

News of tsunami warnings and earthquake warnings will be taken from sources: seismic network stations currently managed by the Institute of Geophysics directly; sea level observation stations built and managed by the National Hydro-meteorological Center under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; especially from international tsunami warning centers.

Earthquake alarms and tsunami warnings will be carried out through a system of alerting to tsunami prevention by the Central Steering Committee for Typhoon Prevention and Control to build in coastal communes.

The implementation of the regulation proceeds in two steps, after the regulation takes effect until June 2008, the earthquake message and tsunami warning will be carried out according to warning messages from the tsunami warning center through the mass media system; The second step is from July 2008 tsunami warning according to tsunami warning scenarios and through the alarm system.
