VNREDSat-1 works stably on orbit

It was put on orbit on May 7, 2013, so far, after 3 months, Vietnam's first Earth observation satellite, VNREDSat-1, has been operating stably in orbit.

VNREDSat-1 has the main task of taking photos of the Earth's surface, providing high-resolution and active optical images to ministries, departments, provinces, scientific research agencies and other agencies. The university needs to monitor natural resources, environment, natural disasters, climate change to serve socio-economic development and security and defense.

Up to now, VNREDSat-1 has been in operation for 3 months and it is also a test phase of satellite operation in orbit. During this time, the technical staff of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and French experts carried out the following tasks: Stabilizing the orbit of work; Adjust system parameters for satellite-based devices, especially for optical systems to improve the quality of photos.

After being successfully separated from the boosters, at 10:15 pm on May 7, 2013, the S-band control signal transceiver station in Hoa Lac received signals from satellites. 2 days later, VNREDSat-1 began taking photos and sending pictures of Vietnamese territory to the ground at 10:05 am on May 9.

Along with photographic testing, controlling VNREDSat-1 satellite moving to orbit and working stably has also been conducted since May 10. After stabilizing the working trajectory, the photography process serves to align the image production quality as well as evaluate the performance of the satellite to be conducted.

As of August 9, VNREDSat-1 has taken, transmitted and received, and processed 7,799 photos, of which, the number of photos taken in the territory of Vietnam is 735, serving mainly the purpose of alignment as well. like evaluating system performance. In addition, photos taken by VNREDSat-1 satellite were also provided in time for a number of specific requirements.

So far, VNREDSat-1 satellite works stably in orbit, satellite features and specifications meet all the requirements set out.

The operation of the system is done by Vietnamese engineers. The planning and operation of photographic satellites is undertaken by the Center for Small Satellite Control and Exploitation under the Institute of Space Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; the reception of images from satellites is via satellite image-receiving stations under the National Sensing Department, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment

Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, to strengthen the coordination in operating the VNREDSat-1 system to improve the efficiency of exploitation of technical infrastructure invested by the State, on 1 August, The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have agreed, signed and issued a coordination Regulation in the management, operation and exploitation of this satellite system.
