Walking flies rarely reappear in Africa

Walking flies have suddenly disappeared in the last 62 years but now appear again in caves in Kenya and Africa. This fly does not have wings so it cannot fly and is one of the rarest creatures in the world.

They were first discovered in 1933 and were mistaken for a new spider. Later found again in 1948 and disappeared since then.

This fly is named by scientists named Mormotomiya Hirsuta found in caves and wet rocks in remote areas of Ukazi Hill, southeastern Nairobi, Kenya. They do not have wings so they have to walk more and their bodies are covered in hair.

These flies adapt to life in the caves. They have no habit of clinging to other organisms to move from place to place. But with long legs, they can cling to the wall of the cave like bats and move within it. Therefore, it is never found elsewhere.

Since finding the first specimen of this creature, many expeditions went to the towns of Thika and Garissa to find it. If this number of walking flies is found more, biologists can establish a regional storage area to conserve and study this unique creature.
