Warning of risks from X-rays, magnetic resonance

More than 20% of the cases indicated for shooting are unnecessary, while this poses a serious danger to human health, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said.

On October 27, 2010, Director of Radiation Safety and Supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Renate Czarwinski, said doctors are increasingly inclined to abuse radiography and radiography. for diagnosis, from X-rays to magnetic resonance imaging.

Although these scans are necessary and have a high diagnostic value, the IAEA studies show that abuse of radiation scans leaves dangerous sequelae for humans.

According to the IAEA , even in developed countries with a high level of health care, more than 20% of cases indicated for screening may be unnecessary. Indications for excess shooting can be up to 45% in special cases, and up to 75% for special techniques.

According to Professor Jim Malone, Trinity University of Ireland, global scientists are working closely with the IAEA in warning the abuse of this screening to strengthen the protection of the health of patients. He said many doctors around the world do not currently understand the dangers of radiation abuse, while this is more harmful than beneficial to the health of patients. According to him, only when it is really necessary to appoint a projection.

In this regard, IAEA launched a global campaign through the implementation of initiative 3A: Raising awareness of radioactive hazards (Awareness); Ensure the correctness and appropriateness of the screening (Appropriateness); Check the effectiveness of the screening process (Audit).

" This is a difficult task that requires years of effort and a lot of budget. But if we don't act, the price of life and human health will be great, " Renate Czarwinski said.

Recent nuclear medicine studies show that, along with the increase in radiation abuse in health, the proportion of cancer patients involved in screening will also increase very rapidly in the near future. Therefore, it is necessary to convince the doctors to diagnose, the technicians only show when this is really beneficial for the patient, while helping the medical staff improve the diagnosis and care of the patient.
