Watch out for 'self-shirting' with Windows Vista
The advanced search function of Windows Vista can make "sensitive" documents exposed to people, said Gartner, a reputable research firm.
In the latest report, Gartner said that Microsoft giant has not yet completed the data change management function in the upcoming Windows Vista operating system, so many documents containing sensitive information can Accidentally entered into the hands of customers or partners.
In Vista, Microsoft used "metadata" - or metadata - (a term for keywords or bases to describe documents) to speed up the process of finding files. Metadata can also help show in detail the content changes of the document when it is edited by many different people.
According to Gartner, organizations and businesses planning to use Vista need to quickly build reasonable metadata strategies and find tools to enable metadata management more safely.
The price to pay for a company when accidentally " striking a person watching the back ", according to the report, is very expensive. For example, some companies have a habit of "labeling" documents, to distinguish between "dead" and "remote" customers. If they unfortunately sent a document with a "remote" label attached to anyone, the business relationship was definitely chipped, even broken.
Vista will provide tools to remove these dangerous "labels", but that solution cannot solve the problem completely. To use the tool, the user must first create a copy of the document. Even if the "label" has been removed from the file, the possibility of the above copy being sent remains. This is not to mention that the user must always have security in mind: "Delete, delete this file immediately".
According to Gartner, Microsoft should have solved this problem from deep within the operating system, not with a tool that always requires users to remember to delete or delete such "labels" of data.
As recommended by Gartner, Microsoft should use digital rights management technology to control who has the right to view "labels". Each company should also have a list of approved keywords for "labels".
In case Microsoft doesn't have any problems, users must have a data plan and policy resolution before installing Windows Vista, Gartner warns.
