Watch the biggest meteor shower of the year in December

People often say when a meteor falls, the wishes we make will come true. So in December, we have the opportunity to experience the feeling of wishing-resting with the meteor shower Geminids. It is estimated that, in clear sky conditions, you can see up to 50-100 meteors per hour.

The Geminids meteor shower is the largest and most remarkable meteor shower in 2014. This is an astronomical phenomenon that takes place when a series of small meteorites belonging to the remains of the 3200 Phaethon comet fly into Earth's atmosphere.

Normally, Geminids meteor shower is very bright, falls on a moonless day, so it is easy to observe. They can be seen from sunset but only really beautiful and peak at about 2 am local time at an altitude of over 100km above the ground.

In Vietnam, young people can fully admire this amazing astronomical phenomenon with the condition that it is not obscured by clouds and dust. The time you have the opportunity to watch meteor falls lasts from 19:00 until 5:00 am the next day. In particular, you can witness meteor shower 2 times on the night 12 and night 13/12.

In this year's Geminids meteor shower, experts hope to see the meteor track 'Earthgrazer' (roughly translated as Earth). This is a meteor that flies very slowly in the horizontal direction, almost entering the horizon.

To fully view this meteor shower, follow the advice of astronomers below:

1. No need to use telescopes, because eyes often observe this rain will be more interesting and authentic.

2. The period of 1 - 3 am is the best time.

3. Stand outside in the night for 5 minutes to make your eyes familiar with the dark. If you count on 50 stars in the sky, it is a sign of cloudiness and allows you to watch meteor. On the contrary, it's best to go back to sleep.

4. Choose a suitable location, stay away from places with artificial lighting or under the moonlight. The light emitted will reduce the brightness of the observed meteor.

5. Wear warm clothes carefully because the night time is very cold.
