What happens if the Earth only has a cold season?

Seasons formed by the tilt of the Earth. The Earth's axis, the imaginary straight line, passes through the north and south poles that the Earth revolves around, not vertically. In fact, it is tilted to 23.5 degrees.

On the journey around the Sun represents one year of the Earth, this axis always points in the same direction. That's why in a year, different areas on Earth will face the Sun.

Scientists believe that this axis is tilted when Theia, the large body similar to Mars, crashed into Earth shortly after the green planet was born.

This is a hypothesis of a large collision and is also considered an explanation for the formation of the Moon. So what happens if our planet has only one season?

During the 'no summer year', many plants die due to frost and sunshine.(Illustration).

Instead of following the hot and cold weather cycle, the average temperature will be fixed. This greatly affects animals and plants, which strongly affects humans.

In fact, we have experienced a similar situation over 200 years ago, due to a volcanic eruption.

When the volcano erupts, it sends dust, ash and sulfur flying into the atmosphere. They can prevent sunlight, causing the planet to cool down. These effects can last for months to years.

The largest volcanic eruption occurred in 1815, Indonesia's Tambora volcano, spraying ashes into the air to the extent of obscuring the sky and affecting the climate for months. In fact, this event caused frost, snow and ice storms in New England and Europe in the summer of 1816. Later, it was called 1816 'the year without summer'.

Is it really bad to have an endless winter? Then you will be skiing, using a sled or hot chocolate. However, there are some bad news for people who like to eat.

Some important crops like wheat, many vegetables and fruit trees need to go through a cold period to stimulate growth but will not germinate until the weather warms. Without spring and summer, we can hardly grow agricultural products, cereals or other similar plants.

In the 'no summer year' , many crops die due to frost and lack of sunshine, leading to poverty because of the sharp increase in food prices. Cold weather also kills many animals from sheep to birds.

If there is no spring, animals are also difficult to reproduce. Most animals give mating time to give birth at warmer weather. At that time, the food source will be abundant.

In short, it was a good thing for the big planet Theia to crash. If the Earth does not tilt and does not have four seasons, life will be very difficult.

  2. Why does the earth divide the seasons?
