Picture 1 of Why do tennis balls have a ruffled green surface?

Green yellow makes tennis ball easier to see on TV.

In the past, tennis balls were white, but later they were changed to green and yellow because studies showed that the yellow-green balls were easier to see on TV.

Besides, tennis ball has a rough surface because it helps slow the ball . The tennis ball moves in the air, all fibers act like obstacles, they increase drag, helping to slow the ball speed. Ruffled surface also works to increase spin.

Imagine a ball rotating clockwise. At the top, the air moves in the same direction as the spin of the ball. But at the bottom, the air moves in the opposite direction. This countervailing force combined with fabric fibers increases the drag below the ball. Therefore, the pressure at the bottom becomes much higher than above. The pressure difference creates lift, resulting in increased spin of the tennis ball.
