Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just approved the list of scientific and technological tasks to select from 2013;in which there are two research projects to build artificial reefs in Nha Trang Bay to protect and regenerate aquatic resources, restore coral, create landscapes for tourism.

The first topic will create artificial reefs suitable for natural conditions, environment, aquatic resources in Nha Trang Bay waters. Thereby providing scientific bases for artificial reefs to local managers to select and apply models to protect young lobsters in the wild and aquatic resources, ecosystems and habitats. of other marine creatures.

This project is funded with an estimated 900 million VND from scientific sources, implemented in two years, with the requirement for scientists to select suitable locations, designed from 2 - 3 suitable types of artificial reefs, management models . as a basis for replicating the fabrication and installation of artificial reefs in Nha Trang bay, meeting the above objectives.

The second topic was determined to be deployed at Bang Thang, Northwest Hon Tre and Nha Trang Bay with the goal of establishing artificial reefs in combination with coral restoration, creating landscapes for diving and minimizing waves. for Nha Trang Bay beach. Funding for this project is about 950 million VND and also implemented in two years, since 2013. Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology will implement steps to select units and individuals to implement two topics on.

Nha Trang Bay has about 340 species of corals, accounting for about 40% of the world's coral species. For many years, the process of urbanization, illegal coral exploitation and fishing has reduced the number and area of ​​coral reefs.

Khanh Hoa Province has established Hon Mun Marine Protected Area since 2001 to manage, protect and develop biodiversity in Nha Trang Bay, of which the most important are coral reefs.
