Windows XP will be 'immortal'

Although it is now 6 years old, Windows XP continues to be popular with users. However, this version of the operating system is currently facing the exhaustion of the source of product activation keys.

In response, Microsoft was forced to release a new version of Windows XP Professional named Windows XP Pro SP2c. There is no new fix or feature change in this new version. The core of Windows XP Pro SP2c is the solution to overcome the exhaustion of the product key source.

Currently, the version of Windows XP Pro SP2c has been released to the manufacturer. It is expected that OEMs and PCs will also receive the new version of Windows XP operating system next month.

Speaking on the official blog site, the team of system builders Microsoft claims to overcome the exhaustion of product key sources for Windows XP is a necessity to continue providing manufacturers with enough code. The key continues to maintain the existence of this operating system until its life cycle ends.

The life cycle of Windows XP will end on January 31, 2008 for OEM original equipment manufacturers and retailers. The small-scale system manufacturer will be using Windows XP for another year after the deadline.

Windows XP Pro SP2c will be officially included in the distribution channel for system manufacturers since September to overcome the scarcity of product key. Only Windows XP Pro versions can upgrade to XP Pro SP2c. XP Home cannot be upgraded.

Analysts are not surprised by Microsoft's move as revenue from Windows XP continues to increase. At the end of last month, Microsoft's chief financial officer, Chris Liddell, said the company's profit next year still had a huge share of Windows XP. Instead of the 85/15 revenue ratio between Vista and XP, as expected, Mr. Liddell said the ratio would be 78/22.

Another sign that Windows XP will not die is the return of some OEM manufacturers such as Dell. Since April this company has started using Windows XP on its product lines.
