Wireless charging system for bus

The German transport operator Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (RNV) is conducting a pilot project to test the feasibility of wireless charging of electric buses.

Two electric buses are equipped with touch-charging technology, which allows them to charge wirelessly when they pick up and drop passengers at bus stops along Route 63 in Mannheim, Germany. The wireless charging technology used on these buses is Inductive Charging .

It uses magnetic fields to transfer energy between two different objects; One device will be attached to the road surface, while the power receiver will be attached to the vehicle.

This technology eliminates the need to charge the car overnight and helps the car not carry a large battery, while allowing it to run long distance.
