Wooden buildings

Efforts to use wood as construction materials in large projects have been gaining a lot of results. At this year's IBA Hamburge Architecture Conference, Germany's Architekturagentur Company introduced a five-storey apartment block that does not generate carbon emissions during use, called Woodcube.

Most Woodcube is made of wood, except for foundation and lift shaft. During the construction of Woodcube, architects did not use glue or any other treatment, but simply used wooden pegs to connect essential parts together. Woodcube has a total floor area of 1,479m 2 , including 8 residential areas, each with an area of 90-190m 2 . The wall of the 32cm-thick building is an excellent natural insulation.

Woodcube has an efficient working ventilation system based on an iPad heat exchanger, the elevator is equipped with a brake energy recovery system, which cuts 60% of energy consumption. Woodcube also uses photovoltaic panels to generate electricity for the whole building.

According to Gizmag magazine, Woodcube construction process started at the end of November last year and completed in April last year. This work will be exhibited at the exhibition "House with smart materials" within the framework of the conference until the end of October this year.
