World sea level is twice higher than forecast

The sea level in the world in this century may increase twice the forecast of UN climate scientists, a new study said.

Earlier, scientists from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), recently awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, said that in this century, the sea level rose up to 81cm. But in the journal Nature Geoscience , British researchers say the real increase may be twice as high, 163cm.

To draw this conclusion, they studied what happened more than 100,000 years ago, the time when the earth is warmer than it is today. The results show that current sea level forecasts can be very conservative.

Sea level rise is one of the main impacts of global climate change. There are two main factors that contribute to sea level rise: the expansion of sea water when the oceans become warm and the phenomenon of ice melting on the ground.
