Yahoo is about to launch non-DRM digital music service
Yahoo plans this year to launch a new online music service. The company is currently in talks with a number of major record companies for business or offering free digital music MP3s that do not include copyright protection technology.
The leaders of the two record labels said the talks began to be carried out at the end of last month and were completely confidential. In general, this is just the initial negotiation because Yahoo is still in the process of drafting a detailed cooperation plan.
Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and EMI Group PLC recently all participated in the digital music market without integrating DRM (Digital Right Management) copyright protection through collaboration. with retailer Amazon.com.
Carrie Davis, a spokeswoman for Yahoo, said the company is really interested in digital music issues without integrating copyright protection technology. This is also the issue discussed in the recent negotiations.
Yahoo spokesman and record labels declined to comment on the information.
Yahoo currently operates in parallel a music service, watch videos and listen to free online radio and a paid subscription service. However, Yahoo's leadership recently said it intends to abandon the paid subscription model and switch to a free business model under the sponsorship of advertising.
