2014: El Nino has the strongest intensity in decades

The rise in the Pacific ocean water temperature and the influx of hot ocean currents have raised concerns that the El Nino phenomenon this year will be the most intense in the last few decades.

>>>El Nino is getting worse due to rising temperatures

This is the conclusion of Dr. Wenju Cai, weather expert at Australia's Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (ACSIRO), after studying data from the US ocean and atmospheric agency.

According to Dr. Wenju Cai, abnormal phenomena such as the hot wind have happened in the past few months. This is called prerequisite effects when the overheated atmospheric system will produce strong El Nino.

Meanwhile, meteorologists say the prospect of the El Nino phenomenon will be confirmed within the next 1-2 months, although predicting the power of this weather phenomenon is difficult.

Recently, the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) also said that most of the weather forecast models have shown that El Nino can develop in the middle of this year, but it is still too early to beat Its power price.

Earlier, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology on April 8 assessed the progress of El Nino in 2014 was 70%. The agency plans to publish a report on the prospect of El Nino weather on May 6, while Japan's meteorological agency will also update its forecast in the next few weeks. The intense El Nino phenomenon raises concerns about negative impacts on the production of major agricultural products in Asia and Australia.

El Nino is a phenomenon that dramatically changes sea surface temperature in the tropical belt of the Pacific, occurring every 2-7 years, when trade winds (strong winds blow continuously from the Southeast or Northeast toward the equator) begins to weaken.

This unusual weather causes the temperature to rise, causing storms, floods and dryness . seriously affecting agricultural, fishery and people's lives.

This phenomenon has caused serious droughts in Australia, Indonesia and South America; causing flooding in Peru, Ecuador; Severe winters in Europe, East Asia monsoon winds and hurricanes in the Caribbean.
