El Nino is about to end in the Caribbean

The above information was announced by Cuba National Meteorological Institute on July 19.

Accordingly, the El Nino weather phenomenon in the Caribbean, also known as El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENOS) has continued to weaken in June and is expected to end in this July.

The climate in the equatorial area in the Pacific Ocean near Central America is gradually returning to the neutral state and unusually hot currents that have appeared since the second quarter of last year due to ENOS's effects also gradually disappear.

For Cuba, this effect of complex interaction between the ocean and the atmosphere in this period of 7 years has made 2015 recognized as the hottest year in the island nation since 1951, attached. that is the appearance of a dry weather period from November 2015 to April 2016, the most serious in 115 years.

In the next 3 months (from 11/2015 to 1/2016), the rainfall has increased, easing the drought even though it is lower than the annual average in February and March 2016, above the average usually 414.7mm, 124% compared to the historical average. However, contrary to previous negative forecasts, ENOS this time was not as strong as expected and did not cause extreme weather events such as heavy storms or coastal floods.

In view of many climate forecasting centers in the region, the Cuban National Meteorological Institute predicts La Nina or AENOS phenomenon (the opposite phenomenon and often occurs after El Nino when the sea level becomes colder) will start from September on the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
