These 3D images were created from data from the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, allowing astronomers to observe as if they were flying through the rest of the supernova, seeing them in two other parts. each other, partly like a spherical disc, the other part is a flat area.

Scientists say Cassiopeia A is shaped when the nucleus of a dying star begins to collapse to create vortex disks with the masses of material around it.

This is the first time scientists have used 3D imaging techniques to observe a supernova, work done at the American Astronomical Society, Long Beach, California.
