A meteorite in Russia just flew over Earth

A meteorite about the size of asteroid exploded in the sky over which Russia flew over Earth at close range.

2013 EC meteorite was discovered by Mount Lemmon observatory in Arizona (USA) on March 2 last. It is about 10 to 17 meters in size - the size of meteorites exploding in Russia's Ural sky last month, injuring 1,000 people.

Meteorite 2013 EC was recorded flying over Earth at a distance of 395,000km - the distance from the Moon to our planet - on March 4.

The meteorite that fell on Russia 2 weeks ago is also thought to be about 17m in size and weighs about 10,000 tons. More than 1,000 people were injured when the meteorite flew in the atmosphere and exploded causing sound waves in the Ural region of Russia.

Thanks to advanced technology in recent years, astronomers have so far discovered more than 100,000 meteorites in the universe. The meteorite Apophis, discovered by the European Space Agency's (ESA) Herschel space observatory, is believed to be at risk of colliding with the Earth in 2036.

However, recent studies have excluded the possibility that meteorites nicknamed 'the new day' collide with the Earth in 2036.
