Adipose tissue inflammation makes fat people diabetic
After conducting experiments on mice, four research groups identified adipose tissue inflammation easily leading to diabetes in obese people.
Obesity in adipose tissue of obese people is thought to be related to the large infiltration of immune cells, T cells or macrophages.
But macrophages are known to increase the development of resistance to insulin (the only protein in the body that works to reduce blood sugar).
Why is that? It is due to a hormone called leptine, which is present in greater quantities in obese animals.
Leptine inhibits adipose tissue entry of regulatory T lymphocytes, which are often responsible for the activities of classical T lymphocytes and inhibit the infection of macrophages.
"By modifying the activity of T lymphocytes, we can sever the vicious cycle between fat cells and immune cells , " said Dr. Satoshi Nishimura of the University of Tokyo, Japan. Such suggestions for a treatment against obesity-induced diabetes.
