Africa wants to establish a universal space agency
African countries make suggestions on the establishment of a universal space agency during a conference of Sudanese Telecommunications and Information Technology ministers today.
With the idea of establishing a universal space agency, African countries want to
advancing into a new era in the application of space technology.
'AfriSpace, the name of the African space agency, will facilitate African countries to cooperate in the field of research and application of space technology , ' AFP quoted one sentence in the conference's announcement.
In a similar conference in Nigeria in 2010, African Telecommunications and Information Technology ministers asked the African Union Commission to study the feasibility of the idea of establishing AfriSpace.
The statement emphasized that currently only a few countries control space technologies, while these technologies play a major role in many important areas of society - such as television, weather forecasts, Environmental monitoring, telecommunications, positioning.
One of AfriSpace's functions will be the implementation of Africa's long-term cosmological policies, proposing targets in space exploration activities for member countries, coordinating devices in orbit land and other space resources.
