A fisherman named Enrique Lucero León caught a pregnant shark near the island of Cerralvo in the Gulf of California. When he operated on the belly of a shark, Mr. León discovered that the fetus had a strange shape. The fetus is 56cm long and has only one eye in front of the head.

After learning about the strange shark fetus via Facebook, the team, including Dr. Galván Magaña and Marcela Bejarano Álvarez, of the Marine Science Center in La Paz (Mexico), asked Mr. León for permission to borrow shark to study.
According to National Geographic , scientists have taken X-ray of the fetus strangely and reviewed previous studies of other monocular animals to confirm the existence of one-eyed shark.
Previously, this animal was mentioned in scientific literature, but no one-eyed shark has been discovered in nature.
Dr. Galván Magaña said the one-eyed shark also suffered from other deformities, such as albinism, without a nostril, a deformed hump in the nose and spine.
These defects in sharks are predicted by scientists to be unrelated to environmental pollution because the catch area is very clean.
