AMD dual-core chip prices fall below $ 200
In a fierce battle with rival Intel, AMD has just announced the latest price cut of its desktop CPU, which applies to all common dual-core processors.
Specifically, all AMD's Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor models will cost less than $ 200, even when the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ flagship model is offered for $ 178 from now.
The other two lower-end models in the low-end chip line, the Athlon X2 3600+ and 3800+, are heavily discounted, making the latest model, the Athlon X2 4000+, lagging, reaching 73USD.
Source: CNET Athlon 64 single-core chips are even worse, ranging in price from 48USD (Athlon 64 3200+) - 78USD (Athlon 64 4000+). The Sempron chips now have a starting price of $ 31 for the Sempron 3200+ chip, while the Sempron 3800+ is $ 53.
However, according to analysts, "it is difficult to see a place for single-core processors at the present time, when the price of more than half of AMD's dual-core chip products has dropped below the $ 100 threshold.
Even the upper-end Athlon 64 FX chips now have only $ 599 / chip left. However, the price of mobile chips has not changed.
For its part, the world's number one chip company Intel also plans to conduct a "big discount" on July 22, applying for quad-core desktop chips and server chips. This is considered to be Intel's prepared move ahead of the official launch of AMD Barcelona quad-core chip in August.
