Next year Intel launches an 8-core chip
According to the newly released development strategy, the microprocessor industry giant Intel will launch a dual-core line of 45-nanometer technology chips next year.
Accordingly, dual-core processor chips with 45-nanometer production technology will be codenamed Wolfdale and Penryn. Wolfdale will be a normal dual-core chip. Penryn will be a dual-core chip based on the Core 2 Duo microarchitecture and the first microprocessor chip to support SSE 4 technology.
Wolfdale is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year and Penryn in early 2008.
In early December 2005, Intel also once revealed its product development strategy, saying that in early 2008 it will launch dual-core chips with 45-nanometer technology under the code name Wolfdale. and Ridgefield. These two microprocessor chips will be equipped with 3MB and 6MB of L2 cache.
Thus, compared to Intel's product development strategy, the Wolfdale chip is about to become a reality. However, Ridgefield chip seems to have no future.
Also according to that plan, in 2008, Intel will market 8-core chips. This means Intel expects its quad-core chip to dominate the market that year and pave the way for an 8-core chip to hit the market.
