Computer simulations by a team at Yale University in the US predict that America and Asia will collide, forming the new supercontinent named Amasia in about 250 million years, Yahoo News on January 13 reported. .
The movement of Earth's tectonic plates will merge North America and South America. After that, Asia merged with the Americas due to the disappearance of the Arctic Ocean.
In addition, another theory holds that the narrowing of the Pacific will make North America and Asia unite in the future. However, scientists have not been able to determine exactly how to form a new supercontinent.
The Earth used to have supercontinents before dividing into many continents, separated by the ocean as it is today. The most famous supercontinent named Pangea existed between 200-400 million years ago. In addition, two other supercontinents , Rodinia and Nuna, existed between 1.3 and 1.4 billion years ago.
