The SM-3 Block IIA missile launched from the test site of the Aegis Ashore system in Hawaii, but could not intercept a rocket launched from an aircraft, Reuters quoted an unnamed official today as saying. It is unclear why the test failed and officials are conducting analyzes.

Raytheon Co. rocket fabricated, used to target mid-range missiles. The Rocket Defense Agency declined to comment on the test results but confirmed that the test took place.

"The Missile Defense Agency and US Navy sailors operate the Aegis Ashore (AAMDTC) missile defense test facility on January 31 to test the SM-3 Block IIA missile from the Pacific rocket launch site in Kauai, Hawaii, " said Mark Wright, a spokesman for the agency.

A missile interception test last June also failed, but there was a successful test in early 2017.

Anti-ballistic missiles or anti-ballistic missile (ABM) is a missile designed to fight ballistic missiles (a missile for missile defense). A ballistic missile is used to carry nuclear, chemical, biological warheads or conventional warheads, missiles will fly in orbit. The term "ballistic missile" describes any missile system designed to block ballistic missiles. However, the term is more popular than the mention of ballistic anti-ballistic missile (ABM) systems designed to block and destroy long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads ( ICBM).
