AP said, the rocket brought the Solar Dynamics Observatory to space yesterday. Its mission is to collect data about the earth's own star. Scientists want to better understand the phenomenon of the sun's epic explosion because it affects the lives of all species on the planet. Streams of charged particles from the sun can disrupt telecommunications systems, destroy electrical systems and paralyze artificial satellites.
Solar Dynamics Observatory is the first launched spacecraft in NASA's "Living with a Star" program. It will work for 5 years in the extremely high orbit of the earth. During this period the ship will transmit about 150 million bits of data every second. It is the largest amount of data that spacecraft can transmit in NASA history.
