Ancient scorpions are bigger than humans

A giant fossilized fossil of a 2.5m long marine scorpion was discovered at a quarry in Germany. This 390 million-year-old creature may have lived in a river or swamp. The size of a monster called Jaekelopterus rhenaniae suggests that spiders, insects, crabs and similar ancient creatures may have been much larger than previously thought.

Marine scorpions are extinct ancestors of scorpions on the mainland today and other spider-class animals."The largest scorpion today is nearly 30 cm long. You can imagine how big Jaekelopterus rhenaniae is , " said Dr. Simon Braddy at the University of Bristol, UK.

This creature existed during the Earth's time with much greater oxygen in the atmosphere than it is now. And it is this high level of oxygen that makes giant invertebrates, including cockroaches, butterflies and centipedes.

"However, if you are big, it is very easy to detect and become a good prey. So naturally the mother will not prioritize the big size - you need to be small to be able to hide," Braddy said. .
