Announcing 3 new plant species in Vietnam

Scientists have announced three new plant species belonging to three different families in Hon Ba Nature Reserve (Khanh Hoa).

In the framework of the Vietnam-Korea research cooperation in the period of 2011-2013, the scientific group of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources and Biological and Biological Materials Center (Korea) has conducted about 20 surveys. studying flora in Hon Ba Nature Reserve and discovering three new species.

The first species to have a scientific name is Dillenia Tetrapetala Joongku Lee, TBTran & RKChoudhary (Dilleniaceae) , belonging to the Surname family. They are 10-20m tall trees, about 20 cm in diameter and light brown to brown. Their leaves are oval elliptical. Flowers of species are about 5.5 - 6.5cm long, 1.5-4cm long stalks.

They are often scattered along forests, in bamboo forests, scrublands, along streams, at an altitude of about 200-300m.

Also in Hon Ba Nature Reserve, the scientific team also discovered Argostemma glabra Joongku Lee, TBTran & RKChoudhary (Rubiaceae) , belonging to the coffee family. They are 20-25cm tall, with no branching. The upper surface leaves of the species are dark green, blue-white below, often blooming in April.

The Argostemma glabra species is a smooth and succulent herbaceous plant found in primeval mixed evergreen forest and temperate cottage forest on humus and moss-rich tissue and soil, at a height of 1500m.

The third newly released species is Cordiglottis longipedicellata Joongku Lee, TBTran & RKChoudhary, (Orchidaceae) belonging to the Lan family. This species belongs to the botanical plant, its body is 20cm long. Their leaves are dark green, crossed from the root; flower cluster hanging down, 2-2.3cm long; long stalks 0.5-0.8cm. Their flowers are 2-2.5cm in diameter. 4-5 months is their fruit season.

They are usually found in medium-sized trees in mixed evergreen primary forests and temperate sub-forests along the mountainside at an altitude of about 1500m. This species usually grows with species like Lithocarpus, Melastoma, Pinanga and ferns.

The above three species are being stored in the plant specimen room, Plant room - Institute of ecology and Biological resources.
