Belgium has just opened a new scientific research center in Antarctica, 40 years after the old polar research station was closed.
About 100 people attended the opening ceremony of the center called "Elizabeth Princess", including government officials, scientists and business partners.
To build this center, private investors contributed nearly 22 million euros (US $ 28 million), which was closed in 1967 by the old station "King Baudouin".
The new center, 22 meters wide, 10 meters high, is well insulated and has enough work space for 20 people at the same time. Eight wind turbines and 400 square meters of solar panels will provide electricity and hot water to the center.
