The software tricked users into having their computers infected with a virus and their ultimate goal was to steal credit card numbers and other valuable personal information cards of users.

This is one of the first major campaigns that online scammers target Mac users. So far, cybercriminals often focus on writing malware targeting Windows-based computers, which account for 90% of users' computers.

But when Mac computers grew in numbers, they became more attractive targets for cybercrime.

According to McAfee, a security software manufacturer, fake antivirus codes are downloaded when users click on links from search results. They also spread when users clicked on links on malicious websites that could be attached to emails, Tweets or Facebook messages .

Apple said it will release an update for the Mac operating system in the next few days. This update will automatically find and remove that malicious rogue antivirus software, and warn Mac users when they download similar programs.

In addition, Apple also shows the way for users to clean computers infected with malware. These malware have names like MacDefender, MacProtector and MacSecurity.
