Dr. Tristan Rich is a Lort Smith animal hospital veterinarian in Melbourne. He performed the operation after discovering a tumor in George's goldfish brain.
According to Rich, the tumor grows slowly, but is beginning to have an effect and can endanger George's life. Special surgery lasts 45 minutes with meticulous steps. During this time, Rich pumped water through the fish gills with a duct and used a small anesthetic. He used special medical permeable swabs to control bleeding, then stitched and used a thin glue to close the wound mouth.
BBC said, after the surgery, the health of goldfish has returned to normal. This 10-year-old goldfish can live for about 20 years.
