Ba Be Lake becomes the new Ramsar Area of ​​Vietnam

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, UNESCO has recognized Ba Be and Bac Kan Lake as Ramsar Zone - Vietnam's third most important wetland, which needs to be strictly protected, following two national Ramsar sites. The family has been recognized as Xuan Thuy, Nam Dinh and Bau Sau in Dong Nai.

Ba Be has a lake about 500ha wide on a height of 178m above the sea surface. With an average depth of 17-23m, with the deepest point up to 29m, Ba Be is the only natural lake on the mountain that has a particularly important significance in Vietnam.

Located in the complex of Ba Be National Park with 21 unique and interesting tourist spots and attractions, such as Bat Cave, Puong Cave, Na Phong Cave, Tham Ky Cave . Ba Be Lake is an ecological and cultural tourist area. important in the Northeast mountainous region.

Ba Be Lake is also a unique protected area in the system of special-use forests in Vietnam, with various freshwater habitats, populations of some animal species are very important in maintaining biodiversity. and the only place in Vietnam to record a primate species with a narrow distribution area is white cheeked black langur .

In the face of the risk of rapid reclamation of the lake, the State has spent billions of VND for scientists to survey the actual situation of the lake in order to take dredging measures and save Ba Be Lake. Ba Be's recognition of the Ramsar area marks a step forward for Vietnam in implementing the Ramsar Convention and biodiversity conservation efforts.

According to a source from the Department of Biodiversity Conservation , the Ramsar Authority in Vietnam will continue to nominate Tram Chim as Vietnam's fourth Ramsar site.

In 1995, the World Conference of Freshwater Lakes held in the US recognized this as one of the world's 20 special freshwater lakes to be protected.

On November 15, 1997, Vietnam made a dossier requesting UNESCO to recognize Ba Be Lake as a world natural heritage. In 2004, Ba Be National Park was recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Garden.
