Baldness medication increases the risk of depression
Researchers at George Washington University have said that male hair loss remedy for hair loss may be associated with increased depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts in men.
According to the new study, 11% of 61 people who used finasteride had mild depression symptoms, 28% had moderate symptoms and 36% had severe depression. In particular, 44% of users have suicidal thoughts.
Participants in the study were healthy, had no history of sexual dysfunction, pathology or continuous use of Finasteride. The cause of symptoms when taking finasteride may be due to the drug has led to increased prostate stimulation and sexual dysfunction.
Deeper leads to depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts may also be due to finasteride inhibiting an enzyme in the brain and other organs leading to inhibition of steroid secretion in neural activity. Because according to the study of people with depression often have lower than normal blood levels of steroid, Dr. Michael Irwig, Department of Endocrinology at George Washington University said.
Previously, finasteride was once banned from the market when several deaths occurred. In 2011, researchers also discovered finasteride can cause prolonged sexual dysfunction.
