'Battery recovery storm' touches Gateway

With the announcement of the recall of 350,000 potentially dangerous laptop batteries produced by Sony, US computer maker Gateway has become the latest victim of the "battery recovery storm."

' In some cases, battery products that are in recalls this time may become too hot and burn ,' Gateway said on its official website.

Also today, Sony announced it would recall about 250,000 laptop batteries in the global market, adding to the 96,000 battery products recalled in Japan and China.

Sony estimates it will have to recall about 9.6 million battery products on a global scale. Estimated cost for battery recovery will be about 427 million USD.
