According to the International Business Times, the new official height of the mountain is not a result of geological phenomena, but thanks to modern technology, the measurement becomes more accurate.

The most recent measurement of the height of the mountain was in 1949, but the new measurement was carried out by the British Logistics Bureau (OS) with the help of the Global Positioning System (GPS) showing a difference of about one meter. . The exact height calculated by the team surveying the OS was 1,344,527 m, a few centimeters taller than the 1949 data.

However, the new data allowed the surveyors to round up , leading to the official height of the summit of 1,345 m. The OS has a new map with updated data on the height of the summit, according to the BBC.

In the latest measurement 67 years ago, a technical team had to climb to the top of the mountain and carry heavy equipment. The measurement process lasted nearly three weeks. The measurement results are based on a pyramid stone at the top of the mountain. To measure the height, the theodolite (the tool for those who use topographic maps to measure horizontal and vertical angles) is placed on the stone dock during operation.

Scientists in the OS use global positioning technology to determine the location through an atomic clock on a satellite group and draw true height after processing the data. Mark Greaves, the OS's measurement consultant, said the deviations in the download signal from satellites are processed by comparing data taken from the peak with nearby high-precision GPS receiver stations. .
