BirdLife supports the development of ASEAN Heritage Garden in Vietnam
The International Bird Conservation Organization (BirdLife) in Vietnam has committed to continue to support Kon Ka Kinh National Park (Gia Lai) to preserve the biodiversity values of the Park, after the project is funded by the European Commission. funding to expand the system of landscape protection zones in Vietnam was completed in 2003.
Kon Ka Kinh National Park (National Park) is one of four ASEAN Heritage Gardens included in the ASEAN Declaration on Heritage Gardens approved by the ASEAN Minister for Environment in 2003.
In Central Truong Son area, Kon Ka Kinh National Park has 33,565 ha of natural forest, including mountain forest habitats, nearly 2,000 ha of coniferous mixed forest, broad leaf and many endangered plant and animal species. global level such as mu mu, gray-shanked douc langur, hung cheek black gibbon, Indochinese tiger, 6 species of bird only in the national park . From 2003 to present, although local authorities have increased security. Strict protection but illegal logging and forest products are still becoming a major threat to biodiversity at the Park.
With the commitment to continue to support the conservation of Kon Ka Kinh National Park, BirdLife in collaboration with Gia Lai province is concentrating on completing the project of "Creating the linkage area and sustainable management of Kon Ka Kinh National Park" which has been approved by the Ministry. Planning and Investment approved in early 2006, to put into operation in the fourth quarter of this year.
The main objective of the project is to preserve long-term unique biological properties of Central Truong Son priority landscapes, including Kon Ka Kinh National Park - National Park of global conservation importance, to enhance sustainability. security zones, serving economic and environmental benefits. The project results serve as a basis for replicating the national park management model throughout the country.
