Blue Gene / L supercomputer set a new record
IBM's Blue Gene / L supercomputer has added a new record, which processes data at 207.3 trillion calculations per second (207.3 teraflops).
This calculation was carried out at the US National Security Agency (NNSA) when it fed Blue Gene / L reactions in an experiment to simulate a nuclear explosion. This performance has improved markedly compared to last year when Blue Gene / L could only produce about 100 teraflops.
To measure the performance of Blue Gene / L, scientists had to use an application called "Qbox", which simulates how nuclear particles react in nuclear explosions. This test also aims to test the safety and certainty of the US nuclear arsenal.
The success of the experiment further confirms the importance of supercomputers in solving complex scientific research tasks in the future.
