Blu-ray attracts guests with free movies

Imitating HD DVD rival, Blu-ray Disc Association has just launched a new promotion. Accordingly, buyers of Blu-ray players will receive five additional Blu-ray movies free of charge.

This promotion will last from July 1 to September 30. Customers are entitled to select 5 films from the association's 21 movies list.

Previously Toshiba has launched a similar program. Customers who buy their HD DVD players will be offered a discount of $ 100 and 5 movie discs. It was this program that helped Toshiba dominate the next generation of optical disc players.

The Blu-ray Disc Association hopes the promotion will help them remove the gauze somewhat.

HD DVD players can download Internet content

Producer Toshiba said it has recently upgraded its firmware to add Web content access to its range of HD DVD players.

The new function allows the player to connect to the Internet and download content from the studio's server. Downloaded content will be stored directly on the player. Also through this function, studios can provide users with a key to open the HD DVD disc copying door.

In addition, Toshiba has added a host of other interactive features that allow studios to provide a better way to interact with content providers for customers.

It is expected that in September, Toshiba will continue to upgrade the firmware for the HD DVD HD-XA2 and HD-A20 models, adding the function of watching movies in 1080p / 24 frames per second. This is the original movie resolution standard.

Statistics from NPD Group show that Toshiba currently occupies about 70% of the high-resolution optical disc market share. The company's new strategy is part of an effort to increase the competitiveness and consumption of standard HD DVD optical discs.
