The satellite was named Tupac Katari by Bolivia - the hero's name fighting the Spanish colonial regime.

If launched into orbit successfully, Tupac Katari satellite will go into operation in March 2014. The satellite is worth $ 300 million, of which Bolivia lends 85% of funding from China Development Bank. Tupac Katari provides telecommunications services to 30% of the people living in Bolivia's rural areas.

The launch of Tupac Katari was shown directly by Bolivia on national television for the people of the whole country to see. Experts say that Beijing has helped Bolivia launch satellites and has shown an increasingly closer relationship between China and leftist countries in South America and demonstrates China's determination to become a center. mind to provide satellite launch services in the world like Guyane (France).
