BrahMos missiles from Su-30MKI: Perfect couple kill warships in a flash
BrahMos, the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile, was first successfully tested by India from a Russian Sukhoi-30MKI fighter.
BrahMos, for the first time, was successfully tested by India from a Russian Sukhoi-30MKI fighter.
"The first successful test run from the Su-30MKI will greatly increase the Indian Air Force's aerial combat capability from very far distances, out of reach of enemy anti-aircraft fire. " The Indian Ministry of Defense said in a statement released yesterday (November 22).

Accordingly, an improved Su-30 fighter took off from Kalaikunda Air Base in West Bengal state, India, and quickly attacked a hypothetical target ship on the Bay of Bengal.
Indian Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated the country's military forces and the BrahMos Aerospace Group's rocket experts and called it "an outstanding achievement".
The rocket launches from aircraft are still considered a risky event because there were dozens of aircraft destroyed in such tests in the world.
Speaking in the newspaper Hindustan Times, a senior Indian government official said that the success of the test showed that the BrahMos missile is now ready to be put into service for the Air Force.
India is currently planning to equip BrahMos cruise missiles for at least three Su-30 squadrons, including a total of 18 aircraft.

BrahMos is a joint venture between India and Russia, named after the two rivers Brahmaputra and Moscow in the two countries. This is the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile according to the current classification, which can reach Mach 3.0, which is three times faster than the speed of sound. The missile has a range of 290 km and weighs 2.5 tons, the heaviest weapon the Su-30 has ever carried.
A rocket like BrahMos "could be a game-changing weapon in any air force in the world," said Sudhir Mishra, CEO of BrahMos Aerospace.
So far, the Indian Defense Ministry has owned army and naval BrahMos missiles, so this successful test launch will help New Delhi complete the three tactical cruise missiles.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said that in the future, the Su-30MKI would not only carry BrahMos missiles but also be able to launch 3 smaller types of missiles of the same type. India is also planning to deploy an upgraded BrahMos variant with a longer range - 450km.
