Breakthrough findings help repel 'super sexual disease'
American scientists have discovered the reason that a new sexually transmitted disease can easily defeat almost every treatment that people think of.
In the past, gonorrhea - an "old-like Earth" sexual disease and quite common, once again caused panic: the agent of the disease is the evolution of the Neisseria gonorrhoeae gram-negative bacterium into a "super bacterium". defeat the majority of strong human antibiotics. But recently, a team from the University of South Carolina Medical School (MUSC - USA) has discovered the secret of the power of this new bacterium.
"Super gonorrhea" is a more dangerous form of gonorrhea, caused by the same type of bacteria but has been changed, has a very high antibiotic resistance - (artwork from the internet)
Scientists, headed by Professor - Dr. Christopher Davies, MUSC's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology analyzed this sexually transmitted disease below the molecular level and determined how it evolved to against antibiotics.
Normally, when cephalosporin antibiotics are usually applied to gonorrhea cases, it will bind and inactivate a gonococcal protein called penicillin-binding protein (PBP2) . This process destroys the membrane of diseased cells, causing it to break and die.
However, super-gonorrhea strains identified in Japan, France, and Spain and most recently Canada has a new power to prevent cephalosporin - PBP2 linkages . Its roots are six mutant forms on PBP2.
The determination of these six mutations is a breakthrough that helps scientists find a sensible plan against this terrifying sexual disease.
Research also brings good news that the complex molecular process that helps super gonorrhea fight antibiotics is a major barrier to making them not spread as quickly as normal gonorrhea. After the initial announcement, the research team said it would continue to deepen research to come up with a more specific plan for the fight against super sexual disease.
