Old bananas
From the success of this method, the Nam Dong District Agricultural Extension Station is currently incubating with a scale of 6,000 plants / nursery. After more than 2 months of seeding, old dwarf bananas grow well, the price of each tree is only VND 1,000-1,500. The outstanding characteristic of tissue culture bananas is that the planting time is shorter than harvests compared to other cultivars, the whole garden is harvested once, high productivity .
Nam Dong district agricultural extension station has sent extension staff to guide techniques and sell large-scale seeds to farmers.
Currently, the total area of home gardens in Nam Dong district is 584ha, on average each household has about 1,200m 2 , the structure of plants is mainly bananas, cau and some other citrus trees, the average income from the garden economy reached 24 million VND / ha / year, of which 1ha banana gave an income of over 50 million VND.
However, some indigenous banana varieties in Nam Dong district have recently shown signs of degradation, pest and poor quality, thus affecting the productivity and income of farmers.
Succeeding in breeding old dwarf bananas by tissue culture method while ensuring a quality and disease-free local seed source, while supporting farmers to continue to expand banana cultivation area with high economic value.
